BVUSD Elementary Strings Program

The Bear Valley Unified School District is proud to offer the Elementary Strings Program to students in Grades 4 – 6 in Big Bear’s three elementary schools. Instruction on Violin, Viola and Cello is provided DURING school hours!

What does Elementary Strings Offer?

  1. Weekly group instruction during school hours is taught by professional Strings Specialist Sharon Rizzo.

  2. Music reading is taught from the start; students learn Fiddle, Rock, Celtic, Classical and more!

  3. Off the mountain Music Festivals and Competitions beginning in the second year.

  4. Unique performance opportunities build self-esteem and motivation.

  5. Learning an instrument enriches quality of life and has been said to improve academics, using both sides of the brain.

  6. I nstrument Scholarship Program for those who qualify.

What is the cost for Elementary Strings?

  1. There is NO tuition for Elementary Strings Instruction, as this program is funded by the Bear Valley Unified School District.

  2. Students will need to rent an instrument from an approved source. See “Resources” tab. Financial Aid for instruments is available for those who qualify.

  3. An annual $10 materials fee may apply.

  4. Optional Field Trips are not included; students have the option to pay or fundraise for fun, cultural music related field trips.

MountainTop Strings is a collective of youth strings ensembles which have transformed our mountain community into a robust, thriving, and cultured musical destination for both the connoisseur and student of music. Our programs serve students 8 - 18 years of age, from beginning to advanced levels. MTS is known for its eclectic repertoire and variety of performance opportunities for our musical youth.
